It is estimated that 15 - 20% of people are neurodivergent, which means their brain functions differently from the majority. This can make it challenging for them to communicate and organize their tasks. Although some products have been designed to help neurodiverse individuals, they often provide temporary solutions and are ineffective in the long run. Even those who have established their own routines still struggle with staying focused or taking breaks.

How can we create a system that facilitates time management and healthy practices for adults with ADHD and dyslexia?

To address this issue, I aim to develop an app and device that will aid the mental wellness and work ethic of neurodiverse adults aged 18 years and older. The device will have a biophilic design, incorporating lights and haptic feedback to help users focus on tasks and reduce distractions. The aim is not to replace users' current routines, but to enhance them and ultimately inspire them to develop healthier, more beneficial habits.

FINAL DESIGN

The Stepping Stones device is a small timer and notification device that allows users with autism to set dedicated activity times, thereby organizing their day. Many people with autism try to manage their days with physical and digital planners, but often forget to check what they wrote down or have their notifications turned off, which prevents them from receiving updates on time. This device changes colors to match set focus times, softly alerting users instead of sounding an alarm. It can be manually set up through controls on the top surface or digitally set up using the Step Stones app.
