Tambour Cabinet

For this semester-long project, I was given the freedom to design and develop any piece of furniture. It required me to produce engineering drawings, utilize an outside vendor for part of the design, and develop a functioning piece of furniture.

I wanted to challenge myself with a design that I knew would be difficult, so I developed a small tambour cabinet.

Due to my woodshop experience, I milled and assembled all wooden components and utilized an outside vendor to produce my supports. The final materials used are maple, walnut, ash, and mild steel.

My final design is 27 inches tall, 24 1/2 inches wide, and 9 3/8 inches deep. Its small scale, neutral tones, and minimalistic form allow the tambour doors to be the star of the overall design.
